The "Thaxton" Box This English box is a reproduction of the Thaxton/Jones box in the collections of the Wisconsin Veterans Museum. Captain William Jones of the 2nd Wisconsin was wounded at Sharpsburg (Antietam), then transferred to the Veteran Reserve Corps. It is believed he brought/sent this cartridge box home during this period. The box is typical of those that were being imported by both Federal and Confederate Governements. Incised on the front of the box is "T B Thaxton AL." It is believed that Thaxton was using this box at Sharpsburg and was probably among those Alabamians in Law's Brigade who were heavily engaged at Sharpsburg. The Thaxton box is totally handsewn with waxed linen thread at 8 stitches per inch. The single, five compartment tin is still inside.
